I was getting alarmed when you went into the 60 new nuclear reactors — and was about to start a rant on how much all of that was going to COST and how much faster an exponential increase in uranium consumption would lead to "peak uranium" but then you saved it by mentioning re-localisation. I'm linking to this post on my hydrogen summary page. (I'm just an activist, not a scientist, so I look for credible stuff on energy).

I'm new to your blog and am wondering if you have done any posts on what that would look like in the UK where so much is crammed into such a small island? Here in Australia we have followed the American suburban model so closely that our situation is quite dire — but also easy to imagine a generation or 2 out being fixed. The UK is already quite densely packed... and I'm wondering what you mean by "re-localising" the UK?

Lastly: have you seen a Bossel paper that lays foundations for claims that we'd need 5 times the electricity for electric cars? I'm all for New Urbanism, public transport, and bikes to solve this... but just need to debunk some of the EV claims. (Don't mind EV's for emergency services etc but everyone just switching to one?)

Ted Trainer contacted me during the week to state the following:

A big problem with EVs is that you need twice as much electricity as energy to go through the wheels, according to Bossell, but to losses on that path , so instead of generating 700PJ for electricity as at present Australia would have to generate that 700 plus 2 x 1400 for transport... i.e., c 5 times present electricity...and you can't run shipping or aircraft on electricity.

Ted

--
Ted Trainer
School of Social Work,
University of New South Wales,
Kensington. 2052.
